Two
workshops on preventing the illegal use of poison in Macedonia
took place in Shtip and Prilep on 14th and 15th September 2006,
respectively. The workshops were realized in the frames of the project
"Strengthening national capacities for vulture conservation
in Macedonia", financed by the DG Environment of the European
Commission and implemented as a partnership project of the Macedonian
Ecological Society and the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation.
This
is second round of similar workshops that takes place in Macedonia.
The first one was realized in early May, with participation of the
inspectors from the state inspectorates of hunting and forestry,
veterinary and police. This time hunters, managers of protected
areas and environmental inspectors participated. The presentations
were given by Mr. Juan Jose Sanchez Artes (BVCF), Mr. Mario Sainz
de Buruaga (Royal Spanish Hunting Federation) and Metodija Velevski
(MES), on different topics, concerning the Balkan Vulture Action
Plan, its implementation in Macedonia, threats to vultures in Macedonia
and poison as the most serious among them.
Direct contact with the hunters provided new, up to know unknown
information for poison use and poisoning of vultures, which will
eventually help to prepare map of the most affected regions concerning
the illegal use of poison.
