Griffon vulture presentation on Naxos island

10/24/2009

On 24.10. 2009 in Village Filoti, Naxos Island (Cyclades, South Aegean Sea, Greece) a presentation took successfully place aiming to raise the awareness of the local shepherd and livestock keeper community towards vultures, focusing on the local resident population of the Griffon vulture.

The presentation was organized by local members of Hellenic Ornithological Society (Nikos Prombonas) and underlined the role of vultures as "natural cleaners", as well as their conservation value, threats and problems on Naxos island, Greece and Europe.

HOS has a long-standing presence on the island, trying to conserve the small but vital Griffon vulture colony, as well as the rich biodiversity of the island.
