• VCF (Vulture Conservation Foundation)

The two vulture conservation foundations FCBV and BVCF have decided to merge into a single new entity: the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF). By this we strengthen our capabilities and expertise, providing an expert platform for all the organizations that have contributed so much to the success of vulture conservation in the different areas of concern. The new foundation will assume all responsibilities and obligations of the founding organizations, and strives to coordinate actions for all four European vulture species: the Bearded vulture (Gypaetus barbatus), the Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus), the Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus) and the Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus).

    BVCF (Black Vulture Conservation Foundation)

Working from the Mediterranean Wildlife Centre in Mallorca, the BVCF operates the Black Vulture Conservation in Mallorca and started reintroduction projects in many european countries. Since 1986 the BVCF performs succesfully the european Breeding in Captivity Program in colaboration with the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria).

The Action Plan would benefit directly from the long year experiences and the managment of the BVCF which is responsible for carrying out the organization of the Action Plan and, together with the FCBV and LPO is contributing its expertise. The BVCF is supporting conservationist NGOs, training government personnel, following up the four vulture species and works on the identification and correction of threats to these species which will allow their future reinforcement or reintroduction in the Balkan Peninsula and adjacent regions.

The FCBV is involved in the Action Plan since the beginning and supports the programme with their long year experience in nature conservation and reintroduction.

    FZS (Frankfurt Zoological Society)
