HOS (Hellenic Ornithological Society)
The Hellenic Ornithological Society is an environmental non governmental organisation that works for the protection of wild birds and their habitats. It is the BirdLife International partner in Greece.
It was established in 1982, aiming to ensure a viable environment for birds and people. Since then it has realized a series of successful actions in the protection of threatened species and important conservation sites all over Greece. It has identified 196 Important Bird Areas all over the country which act as the focus for its activities. The Hellenic Ornithological Society is active in the areas of research, and the protection and conservation of biodiversity. It also implements projects on environmental education and awareness, as well as interventions in environmental policy issues. It cooperates with all relevant partners for the promotion of environmental actions.
